Artist Statement

My work is a constant reclaim of my human body in space.

It is a reclaim because others claimed it for me before I was even born and continue to do so today. A reclaim in the positive outcome, where it is mine, and a reclaim in the not-so-positive one, when others want to own it.

With a background in biology and architecture, I have started to question what it is actually to use space, to be a volume, to be a self. I have no idea, and my work revolves around this question and its depurations, experimenting with the physicality of possible concepts. What is the connection between the material that holds us and language, and why does it feel so soothing to get covered by some of them or repeat your phone number on a loop.

As a continuous exercise, I plan on performative actions that test these ideas and curiosities, with very simple prompts, so that my own experience is not (too) biased. I have covered my body in compost, rice, tape–multiple times–, cream cheese, sand, just to feel again; that contact that has been imposed but not explained or opened to thought, at least not in my upbringing.
