Online Residency 2022
Artist Statement
- Cecilia is a practicing Visual / Fine Arts Senior Lecturer, works and lives in Ndola, Copperbelt, Zambia.
- Her art works are chiefly inspired by the immediate environment in which she lives and works, the people and clientele she mingles with.
- Most of her works are purely Zambian and indigenous in nature, with insightful thoughts about family life as she is a married woman and mother. She is creative in her own way of imbuing the rich cultural heritage of the Zambian Traditional cultures through Mixed Media Art.
- In most of her works, she will attempt depicting traditional, but typically contemporary art themes and subjects, found in her immediate environment, yet bringing out the cultured traditional aspects of our current world in contemporaneity.
- Using the Collage, Montage and Assemblage approaches, she mostly works with easily resourced media such as charcoal pencils, pastels, acrylic paints, found objects, fabric plus more. Most of the works are abstracted, with a few being realistic in ambiance. The diction thereof is always intriguing to view, aesthetic and conceptual in resonance.
- Cecilia likes to call herself “Na Mpundu Special” which means a mother of Twins. She considers herself to be a special mother because she is vastly gifted. Apart from being a Fine Artist, she loves to sing. She also conducts Interior and Exterior decorations for various events at corporate level.
