Online Residency 2022
Artist Statement
I was brought up in a small village in Wales (UK) and went to school there. The nearest town was industrial and diverse and now is very deprived. I have also lived in Uganda; Algeria; and South Africa, mainly working with refugees, which has influenced my art. I am Catholic but respect all beliefs. I think spirituality is an important inspirational for art, and one of the things I am trying to do is increase non-Caucasian representations in religious art. I also try and promote equity, diversity and inclusion issues in my work; and accepting responsibility for being anti-racist. I paint in oils but increasingly with egg tempera. This gives the colours a real vibrancy but a certain naivety which is what I want to convey. Member of the Kraainem Art Circle in Brussels and Society of Catholic Artists in UK. I have exhibited in the UK, US, Canada, Belgium and Finland.
