Biography
I’m Paula Catalina Ruiz, I was born in Bogotá, Colombia but I have been living in Mexico since I was six years old. Sharing different cultures is one of the highlights of my life I’ve learn so much about traditions, history, and of course art. Music, dance and theatre were my first approach to art but as I grew up my interest in painting and visual arts in general strengthened. Currently I’m cursing my last semester of bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts in The Universidad de Guadalajara.
Artist statement
Art for me is the most honest and powerful expression tool that exists, it’s been in my life ever since I remember, it started with music, but today I can say that photography is my passion, especially analog photography. I fell in love with the analogous processes during my first year of college, being in contact with the entire procedure: shooting the pictures, developing film, get into the lab, and print the image is one of the best feelings; I also enjoy that the result it’s never the same even though it’s the same proceeding.
I love to experiment while creating and to focus on the beauty of things, objects and places that go unnoticed on the rush of the day and the pandemic reassure this notion, because it forced us to admire the little things that surround us.
My art is constantly evolving because I try to apply everything I learn and I like to explore various artistic disciplines. I’m in constant search of getting my work to have transcendental sensations, that have a purpose and a voice.
