Salmah Almansoori is an Abu Dhabi-based multidisciplinary artist investigating the intersections of place and memory. Born in Ghayathi, Aldhafra, she relocated to Abu Dhabi in 2019 to realize her lifelong artistic dream. Today, she is a student pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts from Zayed University’s College of Art and Creative Enterprise, she has developed a diverse practice that includes painting, graphics, sculpture, photography, and video. Her technical and thematic artistic capabilities are supplemented by her skills as an arts professional. She currently interns for Engage 101 and I.e art projects helping foster a greater arts ecosystem and community, works as a Teaching and Research Assistant at Zayed University to impart the knowledge she is learning to other young artists, and volunteers as the Student Council President for her college.

While her career continues to grow, Almansoori’s work has already been featured in recent exhibitions at Dubai’s ZUUSS Gallery, the 4th International Digital Media Triennial, and the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design Zayed Exchange.

Place is more than a geographic locale but a vortex for comprehending the construction of our identities. We unintentionally imbue a physical location with thoughts, emotions, and memories. A sense of place can connect us or lead us to reject our origins, our culture, our identity. In a practice, where I employ a seemingly disparate array of mediums, I formulate artistic investigations of the visual elements that connect our tangible and intangible worlds.

I have built a practice that was influenced by the continuous drives from and to my hometown, where I was able to experience visiting my hometown from an outside perspective. The weekly trip of going back to the place I grew up in, made me question my surroundings and opened
a new door for future exploration. I am not constrained by a singular form. The fluidity of my practice allows me to use materials and methods that best create experiences that resonate with my viewers.
