Bio

Born in Trullijo Puerto Rico, Hanna Kratsman Robles has been making high-chroma artwork inspired by her Caribbean home. After receiving BFA from UNT, she now works as an art teacher in Texas where she shares her love of art with her students. Constantly creating and experimenting in her messy home studio, she produces work that investigates the meaning of home, intimacy, and serenity.

Artist Statement

My work is an exploration of what lies between emotions—using figures that are so cropped that any sense of recognition is gone, creating a sense of dissociation and numbness. These paintings create a scene of objects and scenery that is usually looked over.

A still shot of an empty brain, documenting a single moment when there is a lack of emotion, memory, and embodiment. The pinkness of a foot as it presses on a blanket, the contrasting textures of skin, water, or even the texture of a poorly patched wall. I have challenged myself to express specific emotions in people using as little of the body as possible. The work features a unique point of view that examines the surroundings of subjects and what little and seemingly insignificant things from a crucial part of our environment affect everyday life.
