Belgrade Art Studio is delighted to welcome Matthew Manowski, an interdisciplinary artist from Denver, USA.
He earned his bachelor degree in Sociology and Intermedia Arts at Seattle University and his M.F.A. Arts Leadership at Metropolitan State University.
Matthew works with composition, sound and video. However, he keeps his artistic practice open-ended. This means he uses numerous methods and materials. He collects certain personal moments. He sifts through old notes looking for symbols within the notes. His recorded sounds of the natural and built world meet the digital. He takes influence from mythologies and celestial charts, then combines these fragments. His process is instinctual yet subtractive allowing him to alter the narrative and in a sense his own identity. The results are inward facing, they question our relationship to memory, time, the environment and ourselves. By taking this stranger’s vantage, it’s a look into a re-created past, present and future, where time takes on new measurements.
