What piqued your interest in arts, and when did you know this was the career path for you?
Ever since I was a child, I have always loved to create something. Making stories, making music, taking pictures, and combining them was video production. It was a natural progression for me to create artwork, so I never decided at a certain point in time to go down this path.
How did you choose media arts to express yourself?
It became my media art expression by consolidating my likes and interests. It could be music, using electronic devices, or seeing the world through various lenses.
Could you tell us about the process of creation? How long does it take to move from an idea to a realization?
The creative process and time varies greatly depending on the media I use. I can create digital art in a few minutes, or I can spend years making a film.
What are you trying to communicate with your art?
I am trying to convey something new, a new way of looking at things, something innovative.
To what extent does the pandemic influence your depiction of art? Does it generate new inspiration?
It has become more difficult to meet people, to shoot and to make films. In my case, I am no longer free to make documentary films. Inspiration comes from a variety of opportunities, but I can’t deny that I am now limited in some way in shaping my art. However, I am exploring digital art as a different way of expression.
How do you feel about being involved in an online residency program? How important is it to stay connected with the international art community?
I think it is a valuable experience to be able to connect continents via ZOOM and meet artists from all over the world. The pandemic may have caused us to lose many opportunities, but on the contrary, the Internet has allowed us to hope for encounters that would have been unthinkable in the past. By connecting with the international art community, I believe I will be inspired to create new works of art and I would like to try out interesting opportunities, such as collaborating with artists from around the world through the Internet.
What are your thoughts about the theme ‘artist on standby’? Tell us a bit more about your project…
I believe that creators are on standby in any environment, and that is what artists are. Because we can create a new world on a blank canvas.
What do you want to achieve before things return to normal if it is to happen? Any future plans/projects?
I would like to devote more time to researching my interests and learning new skills to create art. I am interested in art collaboration with artificial intelligence and would like to investigate various possibilities.
