NITELITES PHASE 1
It’s about my artistic response to crisis situations with the main characteristics of creativity and inclusion. My NITELITES Installation project’s first phase concentrates on my creative endeavours, including new paintings and video reflections on the Lockdown time during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Memories make us who we are. And we change and have an impact on our close environment. Suddenly, we appreciate and apprehend differently what we see or stand by love and way of life.
Digital communication smooths the isolation and shuts the daylight in the screen life. Where the time goes. Just a moment in an alternate universe with a struggle between life and death.
At the edge of language, in the form of vague stirrings, fleeting feelings or small gestures details.

NITELITES, ABOUT THE WORK IN PROGRESS
The project was born while I pursued a line of enquiry about the reaction of people/artists/women during the Lockdown because of the Coronavirus pandemic, making an artists’ call, and exchanging messages with a group of artists.
After my dad’s recent passing, I renewed my interest in how we act in times of crisis and applied to participate in the Belgrade Studio Art Residency Online ‘artist on Standby’.
My project looks at light in darkness within, and without us and recreate a new storyline to raise it consequently with any painting and being able to stand by and go even further.
In this project, I explore the painting and video media interferences. I materialize the thoughts in images and visual experiences of it while I recreate an alternate reality. I am no stranger to confronting the notion of Self and New Identity in front of my eyes when they’re de-constructed in the media interference, which matters or collapses in the encounter of abstract painting subject and digital media composition. Resuming the scene in action.
The work in progress is to recreate an intimate and newly immersive experience while showing the paintings and video story with semi-mythical, new mythical references in recreated reading corner with books. Life goes on.

Maria about herself
I am a fine artist working with painting and digital media. I am concerned about art education, interested in ways to communicate through art, about art and memories, city life and natural world, and how the outside encounters reflect on us, and we start to understand and feel differently.
Artwork and painting are self-expression and dialogue with the other, me and them, at the further end of the camera or painting.
I am very fond of the idea of home and a sense of belonging, concerned about the matter and thought of what we’ve seen, when, and where, decoding its ambiguity and alternate realities. During the lockdown, I’ve considerably deepened my understanding of the relationship between people within their homes, particularly women connected to nature. I am particularly interested in water, and I give high praise and devotion to how it reflects on life and memento mori, keeping the memory of time passed around us.
I love the transition from figurative to abstract and vice versa. Seeing it as a de/re/construction of the imagery reflects my artistic decision and aesthetic choice of colour, texture, and moving images. It helps me express ideas and encourage evocative anticipation where nothing is set in stone.
