Santeri Karttunen a.k.a ROY (born 1991) is a visual artist and art educator from Oulu, Finland. He has a Master of Arts degree from the University of Lapland from 2021 and a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from the Savonia University of Applied Scieces from 2015. He currently lives and works in the capital area of Finland. He is mostly know as a painter and in his art he explores the possibilities between graffiti and abstract art. Getting a sense of the nature of different places, being in the moment and at times, chance, guide the painting process.

In my art I try to find ways to express myself through different colors and forms by way of experimentation. I like to use tools and techniques the ”wrong” way to come up with something new and I’m constantly searching for more. I always was fascinated with finding interesting places, structures and surfaces inside different cities and I often incorporate those things into my pieces with colors or textures. As I also work a lot in public spaces I always try to make my pieces fit their environment. Exploring the city, trying to find spots for pieces is in my experience one the best ways to get to know a place. The kind of wandering in a lot of these non-places and wastelands gives you a different point of view.
