PROJECT DESCRIPTION
To me, standby is a liminal space, during the pandemic we were caught between “here and there,” reflecting with nostalgia on our “old life” while looking forward to an uncertain future. We’ve been stuck in a digital world, many of us in isolation or processing profound loss and grief. During this uncertain time, I found respite in physical places and activities like running and exercise.
While we are all on standby, I would like to explore the ways in which memory affects perception
THE PROCESS
My artistic process includes multidisciplinary research and contemplation. I explored facts about medical history, music from different areas, and color palettes favored in distinct historical decades. I learned about medical advances in immunology, how germ theory revolutionized modern medicine, and how we associate certain colors with emotions or time periods.
I let these ideas meld in my mind before creating digital work using found images, scans, and original images. I reflected on these drafts and culled the results with feedback from peers. Finally, I revisited and improved on the strongest, most topical pieces.
UNITED STATES I PHOTOGRAPHER WRITER
Veronica is a journalist and photographer with a strong sense of story in her photos. By combining different elements of reality, Veronica hopes to create thought-provoking work.
Veronica uses art to further the stories she wishes to tell and create alternate narratives for consideration. Whether it’s taking a moment to acknowledge all the work that went into a dessert or considering layers of paint, paper, and texture that make up an abstract representation, Veronica leaves her work open to multiple interpretations. Her ultimate goal is to inspire people to see the world a little differently.
